Anyway, you guys know the deal by now.
USA TODAY Sports
Here are some golfers to consider throwing on your card this week.
Dustin Johnson - Usually I shy away from the overall favorite, but we can get Dustin Johnson with odds of +770. Yes, the same Johnson who has finished runner-up or better in three of his last four events and has 12 top-10 finishes in 17 events overall. Johnson is also second in birdie average, first in driving distance and first in scoring average. There’s nobody golfing as well as Johnson at the moment and it’s not even close. I’ll gladly take the hottest golfer on the planet and a chance to make 7.7 times my money.
Martin Kaymer - Martin Kaymer hasn’t done much on the PGA this year, as he’s played just nine events and has one top-25 finish. However, Kaymer has made the cut in eight of those appearances and has finished inside the top-40 in his last three events, including a 36th place finish at the The Open Championship. Also, Kaymer did win the 2010 PGA Championship when it was held at Whistling Straits. Kaymer could be a sleeping giant this weekend, which is why I’ll take a stab with him and odds of +6000.
Sergio Garcia - Sergio Garcia is a nice value play with odds of +2605. Garcia has finished in the top-five in his last three events, which includes a win at the Byron Nelson. Garcia now has eight top-25 finishes in 12 events played, and he’s third in greens in regulation percentage and sixth in scoring average. Also, Garcia has been runner-up twice at the PGA Championship. Can’t go wrong at all with this play.
Matt Kuchar - Matt Kucharhasn’t done well in majors this season, but you can’t ignore a guy who has top-10 finishes in six of his last eight events. Kuchar is hitting the ball extremely well this season and has missed the cut just once in 20 appearances. Also, Kuchar is 29th in driving accuracy percentage and eighth in scoring average. Kuchar is in terrific form right now and that makes odds of +4000 worth a play.
Jason Dufner - If you’re looking for a chance to really break open the bank, Jason Dufner and odds of +10000 may be the play for you. Dufner has nine top-25 finishes in 22 appearances and is coming off a solid showing at the Open Championship. Dufner has struggled to consistently get over the hump this season, but he is eighth in greens in regulation percentage and 16th in scoring average. Of course, Dufner also won the PGA Championship in 2013 and was runner-up in 2011. I’ll take these huge odds given the value.
