Here are five golfers to consider putting on your card this week.
Webb Simpson - Webb Simpson is coming off an impressive performance in the PGA Championship and has now finished 13th or better in four of his last six events. Simpson is easily playing his best stretch of golf during the season and has seven top-25 finishes overall in 16 events played. Simpson is also a solid 26th in scoring average. In his current form and with some of the heavy hitters out of the field, Simpson and odds of +3500 is a solid play.
Bubba Watson - Bubba Watson has been struggling quite a bit lately, as he’s finished 39th or worse in five of his last six events. However, Watson absolutely loves Connecticut, as he won the Travelers Championship in 2010 and last year, and he was runner-up in 2012. Watson is also still fourth in driving distance and 10th in eagles holes per. If there’s one course that can get Watson back on track, it’s this one, which is why I like him and the odds of +1400.
Aaron Baddeley - If you’re looking for a nice sized long shot this week, Aaron Baddeley and odds of +8000 may be worth a play. Baddeley has finished 17th or better in three of his last four events and did have an OK 49th place finish in the PGA Championship. Baddeley has now made the cut in eight of his last 12 events and is 10th in sand save percentage. Also, Baddeley did have a top-five finish at the Travelers Championship back in 2014. Baddeley is worth a value play this week given his current form.
Jason Kokrak - Another big longshot this week is Jason Kokrak with odds of +12500. Kokrak has had issues finishing events this season, but he has made the cut in four of his last five appearances. Kokrak also wasn’t bad last week with a 49th place finish at the PGA Championship. Kokrak is sixth in driving distance and has finished in the top-25 six times out of the 13 times he’s made the cut. Kokrak is playing some of his most consistent golf at the moment and has shown he can be in the mix if he can just get to the final day. Kokrak and these odds make for a sneaky good play.
Paul Casey - Paul Casey finished 10th in the PGA Championship and has finished 16th or better in two of his last three events. Casey is another golfer who has had issues making the cut recently, but eight of his 12 times he’s finished in the top-25, so he’s proven he’s dangerous if he can get to the last day. Casey is also 13th in greens in regulation percentage and 33rd in scoring average. Of course, Casey was runner-up in last years Travelers Championship after losing to Watson in a playoff. Casey will have added motivation this week and is in decent form overall. I’ll take a shot with the Englishman and odds of +3000.
