Zurich Classic of New Orleans: PGA Golf Odds, Pick, Predictions, Dark Horses - 4/26/18

The 2018 Zurich Classic of New Orleans

Zurich Classic of New Orleans: Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 1:00 pm (TPC of Louisiana) See the Latest Odds

We make our first and only trip to Louisiana this week for the 2018 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, which is also the first and only team event on the PGA Tour. This will be the 80th year of the Zurich Classic and there have been some extremely impressive performances over the years at the TPC of Louisiana. This event is tricky to handicap given the fact you’re betting on pairs rather than one guy who is hot or has a history of success at a particular tournament. Anyways, here goes…

Here are five golfers to consider throwing on your card this week.

Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

Jonas Blixt & Cameron Smith - Cameron Smith and Jonas Blixt won this event last year with a -27, which is the best score in the history of the tournament, as Chip Beck shot a -26 back in 1988. Blixt is coming off his best finish in quite some time with a 14th spot at the RBC Heritage, and Smith is 20th in scoring average and has eight top-25 finishes in 12 events. Past success as a team is important in an event like this, and it doesn’t hurt to get guys who have been there done that at +3500 odds.

Brooks Koepka & Marc Turnesa - Brooks Koepka makes his return from a wrist injury and says he didn’t even touch a club for nearly three months due to the severity of it. A rusty Koepka is still capable of doing damage, and he did finish fifth in this tournament last year with his brother Chase. Marc Turnesa doesn’t have a great deal of PGA success, as his lone victory was 10 years ago in Las Vegas. However, Koepka is more than capable of carrying this team as long as there’s no lingering wrist pain. Give me this pair at +6600 odds.

Henrik Stenson & Justin Rose - Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose have history in the Ryder Cup and the olympics. Stenson also won in a similar event in the 2008 Omega Mission Hills World Cup with Robert Karlsson. Rose won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans back in 2015 and is currently one of the hotter players on tour. This is one of the few pairings that includes two top-25 players. Even with smaller odds at +700, this is probably the team to beat entering the weekend.

Steve Stricker & Jerry Kelly - Jerry Kelly and Steve Stricker are first and second in Charles Schwab Cup points on the PGA TOUR Champions and have history playing together, as they finished 14th in this event last year. Stricker has been very consistent when playing on the PGA Tour, while Kelly has five top-25 finishes in his last seven events and is currently eighth in total driving. You can snag this Wisconsin pairing with +6000 odds.

Jordan Spieth & Ryan Palmer - Jordan Spieth returns after finishing third in the Masters while Ryan Palmer hopes to get back on track after missing the cut in four of the last six events. Either way, this is a paring that finished fourth last year in this event, just five strokes back from the winners, and with the way Spieth has been hitting the ball, he’s good enough to position this team for a run at the title almost by himself. You can get these guys at +1400 odds.
