We’re a week away from the Players Championship, as we make our first of two scheduled trips to North Carolina for the Wells Fargo Championship. One of the newer events on tour, this event debuted in 2003 and is one of the tougher finishes when players approach the Green Mile. Four of the last seven tournaments have ended in a playoff.

Here are five golfers to consider throwing on your card this week.
Rory McIlroy - Rory McIlroy hasn’t played since the Masters, but he’s finished fifth or better in two of his last three events, easily his best stretch of the season. McIlroy is fifth in driving distance, seventh in eagles (holes per) and ninth in scoring average. McIlroy is also the only player to win the Wells Fargo Championship more than once, and his -21 to par back in 2013 is a tournament record. While the favorite this week, there’s still value with McIlroy and odds of +750.
Brian Harman - Brian Harman has produced top-25 finishes in two of his last three events and is currently seventh in greens in regulation percentage and 16th in birdie average. Harman has missed the cut just once in his last 13 events and is overall playing some of his best golf in quite some time. Harman won the Wells Fargo Championship last year and finished 10th back in 2013. Harman looks to join Rory McIlroy as the only players to win this event twice. I’ll take a stab with +6000 odds.
Tony Finau - Tony Finau is in quite a zone at the moment, as he’s put together top-25 finishes in each of his last for events and is coming off a sixth place finish at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Finau is second in driving distance, ninth in eagles (holes per) and 13th in scoring average. Finau has just one career PGA victory under his belt, but it seems like it’s only a matter of time before that changes. Finau has played this event twice and has an average finish of 22. The 28-year-old Finau is worth a play given his form and the odds of +4500.
Webb Simpson - Webb Simpson is another guy who is hitting the ball well currently, as he has top-25 finishes in four of his last six events and is coming off a fifth place finish at the RBC Heritage. Simpson is fifth in sand save percentage and fourth in scoring average. Simpson also has history at the Wells Fargo Championship, as he’s finished fourth or better here twice since 2012, which includes a runner-up finish in 2015. Simpson and +3300 odds is worth consideration this week.
Ryan Moore - Ryan Moore has finished 28th or better in each of his last four events, and he’s seventh in driving accuracy percentage and 15th in scoring average. Moore has top-10 finishes in four of his last nine tournaments overall. Moore missed the cut in his last appearance in the Wells Fargo Championship, but he’s finished 18th or better in three of his last five tries here overall. It’s hard to ignore Moore as a dark horse value play with odds of +5000.
