The 2018 Travelers Championship
Travelers Championship: Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 1:00 pm (TPC at River Highlands) See the Latest Odds
TV: GOLF, CBS
We make our first and only trip to Connecticut for the Travelers Championship, an event that debuted in 1952 and has seen seven multiple winners. The U.S. Open has seen better days, but we had Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed on our card, which made your weekend profitable if you tailed. Of course, Koepka cashed with +1800 odds, so it was a nice payout with the now two-time US Open champ. We’ve had many recent weeks where guys we list had chances to win but came up short. It was nice to actually see a return finally. But, another week, another event to handicap in hopes of putting more money in your pocket.
Here are five golfers to consider throwing on your card this week.
Dennis Schneidler-USA TODAY Sports
Paul Casey - Paul Casey isn’t getting nearly the respect he deserves in this tournament, as you can get him at +1800 odds. Casey has been one of the more consistent players on tour, producing top-20 finishes in six of his last seven events, and he was one of the better players last week at the U.S. Open. Casey has also finished 17th or better in each of his three appearances at the Travelers Championship, which includes a runner-up finish in 2015. Casey should be a favorite this week. The fact you can get him at the same price as Koepka last week? A steal.
Daniel Berger - Daniel Berger had a string of subpar finishes heading into the U.S. Open, but he’s coming off a sixth place finish and had a chance to put pressure on the field to win the major. Berger hasn’t had his breakthrough moment yet, but he’s quietly put together strong showings when he makes the cut, and he’s heading into an event he’s finished fifth or better each of the last two years. Berger also finished runner-up in last years Travelers Championship. It’s only a matter of time before the 25-year-old gets his third PGA victory based on his consistency. Give me the 25-year-old and +4000 odds.
C.T. Pan - If you’re looking for a big dark horse and a monster payout, you can try C.T. Pan at +9000 odds. Pan has produced top-20 finishes in his last two events and hasn’t missed a cut since the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. He’s playing some of his most consistent golf of the season right now. Pan is 21st in driving accuracy percentage and eighth in greens in regulation percentage. Pan also has an average finish of 16.5 in two appearances at the Travelers Championship. If you’re into value betting, Pan is a nice shot in the dark based on the price.
Charley Hoffman - Charley Hoffman has had a hit or miss season and has had more recent misses than hits, missing the cut in two of his last four events. However, Hoffman is coming off a top-25 finish at the U.S. Open and has done a good job of following up a strong showing with another strong performance. Hoffman finished third in last years Travelers Championship and has four top-25 finishes in his last five appearances here overall. Hoffman has top-10 finishes in three of his last five appearances at the TPC at River Highlands. Hoffman is a decent play this week with +4000 odds.
Marc Leishman - Marc Leishman has bombed in four of his last five events with his only good showing during that span being a runner-up finish at the AT&T Byron Nelson. There’s not much to like from the Aussie right now. However, experience matters, and Leishman won the Travelers Championship in 2012 and had a top-10 finish in 2016. Overall, Travelers Championship has finished 17th or better in four of his last six appearances at this event. After a major you can sometimes see guys a little sluggish and mentally fatigued. This is a chance for a guy like Leishman to show up and earn a nice payday. Give me Leishman and +2800 odds.
