The 2018 A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier

A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier: Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 1:00 pm (The Greenbrier) See the Latest Odds

We make our first and only trip to West Virginia for A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier, which has also been known as the Greenbrier Classic over the years. One of the newer events on the PGA tour that debuted in 2010, we’ve seen some impressive performances from the winners, as all seven players to win this event have been at least -10 to par. With a wide open field yet again, we should see some competitive golf this weekend.

Here are five golfers to consider throwing on your card this week.

Russell Henley - Russell Henley has been a pretty solid golfer the last couple of months, producing top-25 finishes in four of his last eight events, which includes a sixth place spot at the Travelers Championship. Henley has missed just two cuts since Pebble Beach and is 10th in driving accuracy percentage. Henry has also finished fifth in his last two appearances at The Greenbrier, so this should be another strong week for the 29-year-old American. Getting Henley at +2000 odds seems like a logical play.

Webb Simpson - Webb Simpson has missed the cut in two of his last three events, but he’s also produced top-25 finishes in each of his last five times in which he’s made the cut. Simpson has top-25 finishes in 10 of his 14 times making the cut this season and is currently sixth in scoring average. There’s also the fact Simpson is one of the more experienced players on this course and has three top-10 finishes here since 2011, which includes a third place finish in 2014. The combination of current form and history here makes Simpson a strong play at +1800 odds.

Brian Harman - Brian Harman has zero success at this event, as he hasn’t played here since 2014 when he missed the cut. In three appearances at this event, Harman finishing 65th was his best showing. Still, Harman has missed the cut just once in his last 11 events and has finished 23rd or better in three of his last six events. Harman is coming off a top-10 finish at the Travelers Championship, and he’s 19th in driving accuracy percentage and 14th in birdie average. If you put the lack of success in West Virginia out of your mind, Harman is a solid play this week at +3000 odds.

Andrew Putnam - Andrew Putnam is coming off a solid showing at the Quicken Loans National and did have a runner-up finish at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Putnam has finished 27th or better in five of his last six PGA events overall and hasn’t missed a cut since the Valspar Championship in early March. Putnam doesn’t have any course history at The Greenbrier, but few golfers in this field are in better form than him right now. At +6000 odds, it’s hard to pass up this guy up for his first PGA victory.

Jimmy Walker - Jimmy Walker has had a very hit or miss season and is coming off brutal performances at the US Open and Quicken Loans National. Walker has sprinkled in some top-10 finishes here and there and does have a runner-up spot at the Players Championship, so it hasn’t been all bad. The real reason to like Walker this week at +3000 odds is the fact few have had the success in West Virginia like he has. Walker finished 18th at this event last year and had top five finishes here in 2010, 2011 and 2013. With a wide open field and a guy who is consistently in the running at this course, you have to like your chances with the 39-year-old.
