The 2018 RBC Canadian Open

RBC Canadian Open: Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 1:00 pm (Glen Abbey Golf Course) See the Latest Odds

TV: GOLF, CBS

We head to Ontario for the RBC Canadian Open, an event that’s well over 100 years old and has a massive purse of over six million dollars. The field is rather stacked and there’s plenty of chances to make some money this week. Of course, we hit last week with Francesco Molinari at +2800 odds, so we’re riding high with confidence and eager to put a nice little streak together as we head down the home stretch.

Here are five golfers to consider throwing on your card this week.

Charley Hoffman - Charley Hoffman hasn’t quite come close to a victory this season, but he’s currently playing some of his best golf with three straight top-20 finishes, which includes a -2 at the Open last week. It’s the perfect time for Hoffman to build that confidence considering he’s finished no worse than 16th in three appearances at the Canadian Open and even had a runner-up spot last year. Hoffman should be one of the favorites to win this tournament this week, but instead you can get him at +2500 odds. I like.

Matt Kuchar - Matt Kuchar is another solid player you can get at +2500 odds this weekend. Kuchar is coming off a top-10 finish last week at the Open and has now finished 17th or better in three of his last six events. Kuchar has also finished in the top-10 in three of his four appearances at the Canadian Open, which includes a runner-up finish back in 2013. There’s a decent chance Kuchar ends the drought this week.

Brandt Snedeker - Brandt Snedeker hasn’t had the best season this year and enters this week missing the cut in two of his last three events. The good news is that Snedeker has finished in the top-10 in two of his last three events in which he’s made the cut. The even better news is that Snedeker has finished no worse than fifth in all three of his appearances at the Canadian Open, which includes winning this tournament in 2013. Yeah, I’ll take my chances with Snedeker and +4500 odds this week.

Tony Finau - Tony Finau is one of those golfers who has been knocking on the door for a win at a big tournament, as he finished fifth in the US Open, just finished in the top-10 last week at the Open and has top-25 finishes in nine of his last 11 events overall. It’s only a matter of time before Finau finishes the job and takes home the big trophy. Finau finished fifth at the Canadian Open last year. I get the feeling that this could be Finau’s weekend, so I’m going to play him at +1600 odds.

Jhonattan Vegas - Jhonattan Vegas has done almost nothing this season, as he has just four top-25 finishes and is coming off back-to-back events where he’s missed the cut. Vegas honestly hasn’t looked good since his top-25 finish in Mexico. However, Vegas has won this event back-to-back years and could become the first golfer ever to make it three straight years. Vegas would also join Lee Trevino, Sam Snead, Tommy Armour and Leo Diegel as the only players to win the Canadian Open more than twice. I don’t think it happens, but you can’t pass up Vegas and +6600 odds as a shot in the dark.
