TV: GOLF

We make our way to Malaysia for the CIMB Classic, an event that debuted in 2010 and is the first event ever sanctioned by the PGA Tour in Southeast Asia. This event will be played at the TPC Kuala Lumpur and each of the last three winners have been 20-plus strokes under par.

Here are five golfers to consider throwing on your card this week.

CIMB Classic: PGA Golf Pick, Odds, Preview, Predictions, Dark Horses - 10/11/18

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Justin Thomas - Justin Thomas is the clear favorite to win this week, but you can still get him at +450 odds. Thomas is head and shoulders the best golfer in this watered down field, and he’s won this event in two of the last three years. Thomas also has a top-25 finish in each of his last six singles events and has been at least five strokes under par in seven of his last 10 events. Not the obvious long shot we usually shoot for in these articles, but nobody ever went broke making 4.5 times their money.

Xander Schauffele - Xander Schauffele is also a top favorite this week, but unlike Thomas, he’s bringing in +1600 odds. Schauffele is coming off a third place finish at the BMW Championship and a seventh place finish at the Tour Championship. Schauffele has missed just two cuts since the US Open. While he doesn’t have as much experience on this course as other players, Schauffele did finish third here last year. Schauffele is a decent play given his consistency as of late and the fact he played well here in his first ever appearance.

Gary Woodland - Gary Woodland has top-25 finishes in six of his last seven events and hasn’t missed a cut since the Players Championship. Woodland had a top-30 showing at the CIMB Classic last year and was runner-up in 2013 and 2014. Expect Woodland to continue his impressive stretch this week and possibly win it this time. I’ll take Woodland and the +2200 odds.

Ryan Moore - Ryan Moore finished runner-up last week at the Safeway Open, a nice start to 2019 after finishing sluggish down the stretch of last season. You can expect Moore to build on such a performance considering he’s won the CIMB Classic twice and had top-10 finishes in 2010 and 2015. In his last five appearances here, Moore has finished no worse than 17th. You have to love what Moore showed you last week and how dominant he’s been on this course over the years. Moore and +1400 odds is worth a strong look this week.

Kevin Na - Kevin Na has quietly been putting together a nice stretch of golf, as he won the Military Tribute and had top-25 finishes in four of his last five events overall. Na finished 2018 seventh in sand save percentage and 27th in birdie average. Na isn’t a golfer who wins a lot, but he does have two top-five finishes at the CIMB Classic since 2014 and had a top-10 finish here in 2012. If you’re looking for a strong dark horse and somebody who could surprise this week, Na and +4000 odds may be worth a play.
