The 2018 Mayakoba Golf Classic

Mayakoba Golf Classic: Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 1:00 pm (El Camaleon Golf Club) See the Latest Odds

TV: GOLF

We make our first of two scheduled trips to Mexico for the Mayakoba Golf Classic, an event that debuted in 2007 and is played at El Camaleon Golf Club. Last week, we had multiple top-10 finishers in our article and even the runner-up in Patrick Cantlay at +1600 odds. So, while we’re not seeing profit yet, we’ve been consistently knocking on the door with the five golfers we list. Let’s stay at it.

Here are five golfers to consider throwing on your card this week.

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Rickie Fowler - Rickie Fowler took some time off and finished last week at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open with a -17 to par, which means he has top-10 finishes in each of his last three events. Fowler is probably the hottest golfer in the world currently, and he finished runner-up at the Mayakoba Golf Classic last year. While he’s the favorite this week, there’s still value with Fowler and +800 odds.

Gary Woodland - Gary Woodland is off to a fire start to the season, as he’s finished no less than 14 strokes under par in each of his last three events and is a combined 51 strokes under par this season. Woodland is also eighth in greens in regulation percentage, second in birdie average and sixth in scoring average. Woodland finished runner-up in the 2016 Mayakoba Golf Classic. Give me Woodland and +1800 odds.

Emiliano Grillo - Emiliano Grillo has finished under par in each of his four events this season and that includes a -21 at the CIMB Classic, where he finished runner-up. Grillo is playing some of his most consistent golf in quite some time, and he now goes to a place where he’s finished in the top-10 in two appearances. Grillo has an average finish of 9.5 at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. Grillo and +2200 odds is a solid play this week.

Scott Piercy - Scott Piercy is a combined 39 strokes under par in his last three events and is currently sixth in driving accuracy percentage. Piercy has simply been on a tear since missing the cut at the Safeway Open. Piercy has top-20 finishes in three of his last five appearances at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, which includes finishing fourth here last year. It’s hard not to like Piercy and +4500 odds given his current form.

Charles Howell III - Charles Howell III doesn’t have the sexy numbers as others listed and he hasn’t played since the CJ Cup. However, Howell has top-10 finishes in three of his last five appearances at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, which includes back-to-back years with a fourth place finish last year. Few players in this current field have been as consistent in Mexico as Howell. I’ll take my +4500 odds with the 39-year-old.
