This Thursday morning, the PGA Tour presents the first round of the 2021 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship
Before I discuss my favorite matchup bets for the first round of the 2021 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship let’s take a look at the current leaders in first round scoring average on the PGA Tour.
Here is a list of the top ten ranked golfers in first round scoring average on the PGA Tour that are in this week’s 2021 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship field with that player’s average first round score this season.
1 Josh Teater 69.29
2 Emiliano Grillo 69.38
3 Justin Suh 69.60
4 Tim Wilkinson 69.64
5 Charley Hoffman 69.69
6 Brice Garnett 69.87
7 Roger Sloan 69.92
8 Scott Harrington 69.93
9 Sepp Straka 69.94
10 Nate Lashley 70.00
Now let’s shift our focus to my favorite first round matchup bets for the 2021 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship.
Roger Sloan +100 over Joel Dahmen
Sloan arrives at this week's Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship on the heels of two consecutive top 25 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a 22nd place result at the Puerto Rico Open last month. In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship field, in the last eight rounds played on the PGA Tour, Sloan ranks first in GIR (greens in regulation), third in strokes gained approach, 14th in birdie or better percentage, and fourth in strokes gained ball striking.
In direct contrast to Sloan, Joel Dahmen has not been playing good golf lately. Let me be more specific. Dahmen has missed the cut in six of his last seven events played on the PGA Tour. His only made cut in the seven tournament stretch just mentioned was a 60th place finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Charles Howell III -129 over Luke List
Howell III has four top 30 finishes in his last eight events on the PGA Tour, including an impressive ninth place finish at the Players Championship two weeks ago. Unfortunately for Luke List, his game is trending in the wrong direction. List has missed the cut in three of his last four events played on the PGA Tour. I absolutely love Charles Howell III to win this this matchup.
