This Friday, the PGA Tour presents the second round of the 2021 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship

Before I discuss my favorite matchup bets for the second round of the 2021 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship let’s take a look at the current leaders in second round scoring average on the PGA Tour.

Here is a list of the top ten ranked golfers in second round scoring average on the PGA Tour that are in this week’s 2021 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship field with that player’s average second round score this season.

T2  Charles Howell III 69.67

T2  Sam Ryder 69.67

T4  Emiliano Grillo 69.75

T4  J.B. Holmes 69.75

T4  Bronson Burgoon 69.75

7    Charley Hoffman 70.07

8    Roger Sloan 70.08

9    Ted Potter Jr. 70.17

10  Brice Garnett 70.27

Now let’s shift our focus to my favorite second round matchup bets for the 2021 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship.

Emiliano Grillo -162 over Kelly Kraft

Grillo has three top 22 finishes in his last five events played on the PGA Tour, including an 11th place result at the Puerto Rico Open last month.

In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 Corales Puntacana Championship field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Grillo ranks fourth in strokes gained approach, fourth in birdie or better percentage, seventh in strokes gained putting, and sixth in GIR (greens in regulation).

The other reason I like Grillo in this matchup is his opponent, Kelly Kraft. Frankly, Kraft has not been playing well. More specifically, Kraft has missed the cut in six of the last eight events he has played on the PGA Tour.

Thomas Detry -125 over Vincent Whaley

Thomas Detry has three top 28 finishes in his last four events played (PGA and European Tours combined), including a ninth place result at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters earlier this month. Detry finished 33rd at the 2020 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship.

Patrick Rodgers -136 over David Hearn

Rodgers fired a final round 69 at the Genesis Invitational last month en route to a 12th place finish. Rodgers also finished 11th at the 2020 Corales Puntacana Championship. In direct contrast to Rodgers, David Hearn has not played good golf in quite a long time. Hearn has missed the cut in seven of the last eight events he has played on the PGA Tour.
