2021 Austrian Open: European Tour Golf Picks, Odds, Predictions 4/15/21

This week, the European Tour presents golf fans with the 2021 Austrian Open.

Before I dive into my favorite golf bets for this week’s European Tour event let’s take a brief look at the golf course the field will play this week.

The 2021 Austrian Open will be played at the Diamond Country Club (Diamond Course) in Atzenbrugg, Austria. The Diamond Course is a par 72 that measures 7,458 yds. This track will present this week’s field with tree lined fairways and undulating bent/poa grass greens. This golf course also has four par five holes. Water is in play on nine of the 18 holes. Clearly, good driving accuracy off the tee appears to be vitally important this week.

Last year’s Austrian Open was the first tournament played on the European Tour after a three month stoppage of play due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Marc Warren won the 2020 Austrian Open with a cumulative four round score of 13 under par.

Now that we have discussed the golf course, let’s turn our attention to my favorite golf bets for the 2021 Austrian Open.

Here is a golfer to consider placing on your card to finish in the top five.

Joost Luiten +550 – The 35 year old finished seventh at the Kenya Savannah Classic in his last outing on the European Tour three weeks ago. After four rounds of competitive play at the 2021 Kenya Savannah Classic, relative to the field, Luiten ranked tenth in strokes gained approach (1.29), 17th in driving accuracy (51.80%) and second in strokes gained putting (2.46).

Luiten also checks the box for me when it comes to previous event form. Luiten has played the Austrian Open six times since 2011. In those six events played, Luiten has five top seven finishes, including a win at the 2013 Austrian Open.

Here is a golfer to consider placing on your card to finish in the top 20.

Ashley Chesters +400 – I mentioned earlier in this article that I felt that driving accuracy would be of vital importance to a golfer’s success this week. Well, Chesters checks that box. The 31 year old currently ranks 18th in driving accuracy (57.86%) on the European Tour. It should also be noted that Chesters arrives at this week’s European Tour event in relatively decent form. Chesters finished 14th at the Kenya Savannah Classic last month.
