This week, The PGA Tour travels to the beautiful state of North Carolina for the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship.
Before I discuss my favorite golf bets for this week’s Wells Fargo Championship let’s take a look at the golf course the field will play and the key player statistics that I think are the most important to a golfer’s success this week.
The 2021 Wells Fargo Championship will be played at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. This golf course is a par 71 that measures 7,521 yards. This golf course has traditionally been one of the longest tracks on the PGA Tour schedule since it debuted on the Tour's schedule in 2003. This course features three par five holes. Water is in play on seven of the 18 holes.
With the exception of 2017, the Quail Hollow Club has hosted the Wells Fargo Championship every year since the tournament debuted on the PGA Tour schedule. The 2017 Wells Fargo Championship was held at the Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, North Carolina. Keep that in mind as you review previous player results from this event.
*The 2020 edition of this event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The key player statistics that I will be focusing on this week are GIR (greens in regulation), driving distance, strokes gained tee to green, and strokes gained around the green.
Now let’s turn our attention to my favorite golf bets for the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship!
Here are two golfers to consider placing on your card to finish in the top ten.
Webb Simpson +175 – The American has played seven tournaments on the PGA Tour since the beginning of January. In those seven events just mentioned, Simpson has an impressive five top 17 finishes, including a fourth place result at the Sony Open in January. Simpson also finished second at the 2015 Wells Fargo Championship.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 Wells Fargo Championship field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Simpson ranks seventh in strokes gained around the green, eighth in strokes gained tee to green, fourth in bogey avoidance, and 19th in strokes gained ball striking.
Matt Wallace +600 – The 31 year old has three top 18 finishes in his last five events played on the PGA Tour, including a third place result at the Valero Texas Open last month.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 Wells Fargo Championship field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Wallace ranks third in strokes gained tee to green, ninth in strokes gained around the green, and seventh in GIR (greens in regulation).
