Hideki Matsuyama -110 over Rickie Fowler
Hideki Matsuyama has three top 26 finishes in his last five tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including a win at the 2021 Masters in April. It should also be noted that Matsuyama finished 13th at the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Hideki ranks seventh in GIR (greens in regulation), third in strokes gained tee to green, fourth in strokes gained approach and second in strokes gained ball striking.
I also like the fact that Hideki’s opponent in this matchup, Rickie Fowler, has not been playing good golf lately. More specifically, Fowler has missed the cut in three of his last five tournaments played on the PGA Tour.
Doc Redman -106 over Phil Mickelson
Doc Redman fired a final round 67 at the Palmetto Championship @ Congaree two weeks ago en route to an eventual second place finish.
Redman also checks the box for me when it comes to previous event history. Let me be more specific. Redman has played the Rocket Mortgage Classic twice since 2019. In those two tournaments just mentioned, Redman has two top 21 finishes, including a second place result at the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Redman ranks first in bogey avoidance and seventh in strokes gained approach.
