This Thursday, the PGA Tour presents the first round of the 2021 John Deere Classic!
Before I discuss my favorite matchup bets for the first round of the 2021 John Deere Classic let’s take a look at the current leaders in first round scoring average on the PGA Tour.
Here is a list of the top ten ranked golfers in first round scoring average on the PGA Tour that are in this week’s 2021 John Deere Classic field with that player’s average first round score this season.
Top Ten Golfers in First Round Scoring Average
- Brian Harman 69.43
- Josh Teator 69.73
- Kevin Streelman 69.91
- Patton Kizzire 70.00
- Russell Henley 70.05
- Doug Ghim 70.07
- Joseph Bramlett 70.10
- Roger Sloan 70.12
- Nick Taylor 70.13
- Ryan Moore 70.17
Now that we have established who the top ten golfers with regard to first round scoring average are on the PGA Tour let’s shift our attention to my favorite first round matchup bets for this week’s 2021 John Deere Classic!
Alexander Noren -120 over Luke List
The 38 year old has two top 13 finishes in his last three tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including an impressive fourth place finish at last week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic. Yes, I know that Noren has not yet won a tournament on the PGA Tour. I also know that Noren has accumulated ten wins on the European Tour. In my opinion, Noren’s game is certainly good enough to defeat Luke List in this first round matchup wager.

Noren also checks the box for me when it comes to key player statistics. In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 John Deere Classic field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Alexander Noren ranks fifth in bogey avoidance, fifth in scrambling, and tenth in strokes gained tee to green.
Kevin Streelman -137 over Sam Ryder
Streelman has accumulated four top 20 finishes in his last five events played on the PGA Tour, including an eighth place finish at the 2021 PGA Championship.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 John Deere Classic field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Streelman ranks eighth in strokes gained tee to green, first in scrambling, and sixth in bogey avoidance.
I also like the fact that Kevin Streelman’s opponent (Sam Ryder) in this first round matchup bet has not been playing well. More specifically, Ryder has missed the cut in four of his last six tournaments played on the PGA Tour.
