2021 Tour Championship
September 2, 2021 10:00 am EDT
This week, the PGA Tour travels to Atlanta for the 2021 Tour Championship.
Before I discuss my favorite golf bets for this week’s prestigious PGA Tour event let’s take a quick look at the golf course the field will play and the key player statistics that I think are the most vital to a player’s success this week.
The 2021 Tour Championship will be played at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. This golf course is a par 70 that measures 7,348 yards. This track will present this week’s field with tree-lined fairways. The course also features pure Bermuda grass greens and rough.
For those readers that are not aware, golfers will tee off on Thursday with a predetermined score based on current FedEx Cup rankings. The FedEx Cup leader (Patrick Cantlay) will start the tournament at 10 under par. The scores than continue to lower until the 30th player in the field comes in at even par.
The key player statistics that I am looking at this week are driving accuracy, GIR (greens in regulation), strokes gained approach, strokes gained off the tee, birdie or better percentage, and strokes gained around the green.

Now let’s shift our attention to my favorite golf bets for the 2021 Tour Championship!
Here is a golfer to consider placing on your card to finish in the top five.
Justin Thomas +250
The 2017 FedEx Cup Champion certainly checks the box for me when it comes to previous event/course history. Justin Thomas has played the Tour Championship five times since 2016. In those five tournaments just mentioned, Thomas has accumulated five top nine finishes, including a second place result at the 2017 Tour Championship.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 Tour Championship field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Justin Thomas ranks seventh in GIR (greens in regulation), sixth in strokes gained ball striking, third in strokes gained approach, and fifth in strokes gained tee to green.
As far as current form goes, Thomas checks that box as well. Justin Thomas fired a first round 63 at the 2021 Northern Trust two weeks ago en route to an eventual fourth place finish.
Here is a golfer to consider placing on your card to finish in the top ten.
Sam Burns +250
The 25 year old American arrives at the final event of the PGA Tour season in rather good form. Let me be more specific. Burns has accumulated two top eight finishes in his last three tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including an impressive second place result at the 2021 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational three weeks ago.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 Tour Championship field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Sam Burns ranks third in strokes gained around the green, third in strokes gained putting, second in birdie or better percentage, and eighth in bogey avoidance.
Yes, I know that Sam Burns will be making his first appearance in the Tour Championship. I am fine with that based on Sam’s current form. In summary, I think that Sam Burns is in great position to post a top ten finish this week.
