Tour Championship: PGA Tour Picks, Predictions, Odds 8/25/22

This week, the PGA Tour travels to Atlanta for the 2022 Tour Championship.

Before I discuss my favorite golf bet for the 2022 Tour Championship let’s take a quick look at the golf course the field will play and the key player statistics that I think are the most vital to a player’s success this week.

The 2022 Tour Championship will be played at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. This golf course is a par 70 that measures 7,346 yards. This track will present this week’s field with tree-lined fairways. The course also features pure Bermuda grass greens and rough.

For those readers that are not aware, golfers will tee off on Thursday with a predetermined score based on current FedEx Cup rankings. The FedEx Cup leader (Scottie Scheffler) will start the tournament at 10 under par. The scores than continue to lower until the 30th player in the field comes in at even par.

The key player statistics that I am looking at this week are driving accuracy, GIR (greens in regulation), strokes gained ball striking, birdie or better percentage, and strokes gained around the green.

If you are looking for a golfer that fits the narrative of a “course horse” look no further, I have found your man. That man’s name is Xander Schauffele. Since 2017, Xander has played the Tour Championship five times. In those five tournaments just noted, Schauffele has accumulated four top three finishes, including two wins in 2017 and 2020.

Schauffele also checks the box for me when it comes to current form. Since the beginning of June, Xander has played seven events on the PGA Tour. In those seven tournaments just mentioned, Schauffele accumulated five top 15 finishes, including two wins (2022 Travelers Championship: 2022 Genesis Scottish Open).

In summary, I am backing Xander Schauffele to top five at odds of +160.
