Sanderson Farms Championship
September 30, 2021 8:05 am EDT
This Thursday, the PGA Tour presents the first round of the Sanderson Farms Championship!
Before I discuss my favorite matchup bets for the first round of the Sanderson Farms Championship let’s take a look at the current leaders in first round scoring average on the PGA Tour that are in this week’s field.
Top Five Golfers in First Round Scoring Average
- Cameron Tringale 67.61
- Chez Reavie 68.12
- Mito Pereira 68.66
- Adam Hadwin 69.05
- Will Zalatoris 69.22
*I should note that the first round data just provided is from the PGA Tour season that ended in August and the Fortinet Championship that was played two weeks ago. The Fortinet Championship was the first tournament to be played in the new PGA tour season.
Now that we have established who the top five golfers with regard to first round scoring average are on the PGA Tour (in this week’s field) let’s shift our attention to my favorite first round matchup bets for this week’s Sanderson Farms Championship.
Cameron Tringale -105 over Gary Woodland
Cameron Tringale arrives at this week’s Sanderson Farms Championship in rather good form. Tringale has played six tournaments on the PGA Tour since the beginning of July, in those six events just mentioned, Tringale has accumulated five top 26 finishes, including a 14th place result at the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic in July.

In relation to this week’s current listed Sanderson Farms Championship field, in the last 24 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Cameron Tringale ranks ninth in strokes gained approach, seventh in strokes gained putting, fourth in bogey avoidance, seventh in scrambling, and sixth in strokes gained on par fives.
It should also be noted that Cameron Tringale has performed well at this week’s PGA Tour event in the past. More specifically, Tringale finished 16th at the 2019 Sanderson Farms Championship.
Scott Stallings +115 over Keegan Bradley
Stallings fired a third round 67 at the Fortinet Championship two weeks ago en route to an eventual sixth place finish.
In relation to this week’s current listed Sanderson Farms Championship field, in the last eight rounds played on the PGA Tour, Scott Stallings ranks 16th in strokes gained off the tee, tenth in strokes gained putting, and first in proximity to the hole from 75-100 yards.
Stallings also checks the box for me when it comes to previous event/course history. Stallings won the 2012 Sanderson Farms Championship. More recently, Scott Stallings finished sixth at the 2020 Sanderson Farms Championship. Clearly, Scott Stallings enjoys playing golf tournaments at the Country Club of Jackson. In summary, I love Stallings chances to defeat Keegan Bradley.
