June 9, 2022 7:00 am EDT
This Thursday morning, the first round of the 2022 RBC Canadian Open will begin.
Before I discuss my favorite tournament matchup bets for the 2022 RBC Canadian Open let’s take a look at the current leaders in scoring average on the PGA Tour that are in this week’s field.
Top Five Golfers in Scoring Average
- Cameron Smith 69.25
- Rory McIlroy 69.29
- Justin Thomas 69.45
- Matt Fitzpatrick 69.50
- Scottie Scheffler 69.53
Now that we have established who the top five golfers with regard to scoring average are on the PGA Tour (in this week’s field) let’s shift our attention to my favorite tournament matchup bets for this week’s 2022 RBC Canadian Open.
Jhonattan Vegas -120 over C.T. Pan
Jhonattan Vegas has accumulated three top 18 finishes in his last five tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including a 15th place result at the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship last month.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2022 RBC Canadian Open field, in the last eight rounds played on the PGA Tour, Jhonattan Vegas ranks third in strokes gained on par fives, third in strokes gained approach, and 17th in birdie or better percentage.

Jhonattan Vegas also checks the box for me when it comes to previous event history. More specifically, Vegas has won the RBC Canadian Open two times previously (2016, 2017).
Shane Lowry -110 over Matt Fitzpatrick
Since the beginning of February, Shane Lowry has played eight tournaments on the PGA Tour. In those eight events just mentioned, Lowry has accumulated six top 23 finishes, including a third place result at the 2022 Masters in April.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2022 RBC Canadian Open field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Shane Lowry ranks seventh in proximity to the hole, seventh in strokes gained approach, and third in bogey avoidance.
It should also be noted that Shane Lowry finished second at the 2019 RBC Canadian Open.
