2022 Open Championship
July 14, 2022 1:35 am EDT
This week, golf fans will be presented with the 2022 Open Championship.
Before I discuss my favorite golf bets for this week’s major championship let’s take a look at a few key trends that I feel are relevant to those that will be placing wagers on the 2022 Open Championship.
Key Trends
13 of the last 15 winners of the Open Championship had a top ten finish at a previous Open Championship.
12 of the last 12 winners of the Open Championship had at least one previous top five finish that season.
9 of the last 10 winners of Open Championships played at St. Andrews have at least one top three finish at the Masters.
Now let’s shift our focus to my favorite golf bets for the 2022 Open Championship!
Here is a golfer to consider placing on your card to win.
Jordan Spieth +1600
Jordan Spieth fired a third round 66 at last week’s 2022 Scottish Open en route to an eventual tenth place finish.
Jordan Spieth certainly checks the box for me when it comes to previous event history. Let me be more specific. Since 2015, Jordan Spieth has played the Open Championship six times. In those six events just mentioned, Spieth has accumulated five top 20 finishes, including a win at the 2017 Open Championship.
Here is a golfer to consider placing on your card to finish in the top ten.
Tony Finau +300
The 32 year old American arrives at this week’s major championship in rather good form. Since the beginning of May, Tony Finau has played seven events on the PGA Tour. In those seven tournaments just mentioned, Finau has accumulated an impressive four top 13 finishes, including a second place result at the 2022 RBC Canadian Open last month.
It should also be noted that Finau finished third at the 2019 Open Championship.
