This week, the PGA Tour presents the final major championship of the year, 2022 Open Championship.
Before I discuss my favorite tournament prop bets for the 2022 Open Championship let’s take a look at the current leaders in scoring average on the PGA Tour that are in this week’s field.
Top Five Golfers in Scoring Average
- Rory McIlroy 68.63
- Matt Fitzpatrick 68.96
- Scottie Scheffler 69.19
- Cameron Smith 69.25
- Justin Thomas 69.30
Now that we have established who the top five golfers with regard to scoring average are on the PGA Tour (in this week’s field) let’s shift our attention to my favorite tournament prop bets for this week’s 2022 Open Championship.
Top Belgian: Thomas Detry +125
Thomas Detry has accumulated two top 15 finishes in his last three events played on the DP World Tour, including an impressive tenth place result at last week’s 2022 Scottish Open.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2022 Open Championship field, in the last five weeks of competitive golf played (DP World Tour and PGA Tours combined), Thomas Detry ranks fifth in driving distance (313.1 yards) and 14th in scrambling (66.8%).
Top Scandinavian: Alexander Bjork +350
Since the beginning of May, Alexander Bjork has played five tournaments on the DP World Tour. In those five events just mentioned, Bjork has accumulated three top 25 finishes, including a 20th place result at the 2022 Irish Open two weeks ago.
Due to the fact that Alexander Bjork performed so well at the 2022 Irish Open, I decided to take a hard look at Bjork’s player statistics relative to the field.
After four rounds of competitive play at the 2022 Irish Open, in relation to the field, Alexander Bjork ranked sixth in driving accuracy (73.2%), sixth in GIR (greens in regulation-75%), and 14th in strokes gained approach (4.67).
