Rocket Mortgage Classic
July 28, 2022 7:00 am EDT
This Thursday morning, the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic will begin.
Before I discuss my favorite tournament prop bet for the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic let’s take a look at the current leaders in scoring average on the PGA Tour that are in this week’s field.
Top Five Golfers in Scoring Average
- Patrick Cantlay 69.51
- Will Zalatoris 69.58
- Denny McCarthy 69.87
- Cameron Young 69.88
- Tony Finau 69.94
Now that we have established who the top five golfers with regard to scoring average are on the PGA Tour (in this week’s field) let’s shift our attention to my favorite tournament prop bet for this week’s 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Max Homa, Cameron Young, or Keegan Bradley to win +550
For all those readers that are not aware, currently, all golfers that participate in the new upstart LIV Golf Tour are ineligible to participate in PGA Tour tournaments. I recently asked myself a few questions regarding LIV Golf. Has LIV Golf had an effect on PGA Tour event field quality over the last month? If so, are there any recent trends in winners?
Let’s take a look at a few of the winners on the PGA Tour recently. Tony Finau won last week’s 2022 3M Open and Cameron Smith won the 2022 Open Championship two weeks ago. Finau and Smith are currently ranked inside the top 15 of the OWGR (Official World Golf Rankings). My point is that that LIV has depleted the talent level in PGA Tour events. As a result, one of the highest ranked/elite golfers in the field are winning.
Max Homa, Cameron Young, and Keegan Bradley are certainly three of the better golfers in this week’s 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic field. Let me be more specific. Max Homa won the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship in May and Cameron Young finished solo second at the Open Championship. Frankly, both of these guys are playing outstanding golf.
Since the beginning of April, Keegan Bradley has played eight events on the PGA Tour, in those eight tournaments just mentioned, Bradley has accumulated four top 19 finishes, including an impressive seventh place result at the 2022 U.S. Open.
In my opinion, Homa, Young, and Bradley all present golf bettors with reasonable win equity. Having stated that, I am about to run to the ticket window to place this wager at +550.
