The 2023 U.S. Open will be played at the Los Angeles Country Club (North Course) in Los Angeles, California.
Before I discuss my favorite early first look bet for the 2023 U.S. Open let’s take a look at the betting odds of past champions of this tournament to see if we can find any historical trends.
Here is a list of the last five winners of the U.S. Open including that player’s opening odds the week they won the event and the score that player posted to win:
Last Five U.S. Open Winners
2022 Matt Fitzpatrick +2500 (-2)
2021 Jon Rahm +1000 (-6)
2020 Bryson DeChambeau +2500 (-6)
2019 Gary Woodland +8000 (-13)
2018 Brooks Koepka +2500 (+1)
Now let’s shift our focus to my favorite early bet for the 2023 U.S. Open.
Here is a golfer to consider placing on your card to win.
Tony Finau +3500
Since the beginning of July, Tony Finau has played eight tournaments on the PGA Tour. In those eight events just mentioned, Finau accumulated an impressive five top nine finishes, including three wins (2022 3M Open: 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic: 2023 Cadence Bank Houston Open).
I also like the fact that Tony Finau has consistently posted quality results at major championships throughout his career. Let me be more specific. Since 2018, Tony Finau has played 19 major championships. In those 19 tournaments just noted, Finau has accumulated ten top 15 finishes, including a fourth place result at the 2020 PGA Championship.
I think this is the year Mr. Finau finally breaks through and becomes a major champion at the 2023 U.S. Open.
In summary, I am backing Tony Finau to win the 2023 U.S. Open at odds of +3500.
