Before I discuss my favorite tournament matchup bet for the 2023 American Express let’s take a look at the current leaders in scoring average on the PGA Tour that are in this week’s field.

Now that we have determined who the top five golfers with regard to scoring average are on the PGA Tour (in this week’s field) let’s shift our attention to my favorite tournament matchup bets for this week’s 2023 American Express.
Patrick Cantlay -115 over Xander Schauffele
If you are looking for a golfer who consistently plays well at this week’s PGA Tour event look no further as I have found your man. That man’s name is Patrick Cantlay. Since 2019, Patrick Cantlay has played the American Express three times. In those three tournaments just mentioned, Cantlay has accumulated three top nine finishes, including a second place result at the 2021 American Express.
In relation to this week’s current listed American Express field, in the last 36 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Patrick Cantlay ranks eighth in GIR (greens in regulation), third in birdie or better percentage, and fourth in strokes gained tee to green.
In summary, I am backing Patrick Cantlay to defeat Xander Schauffele in this tournament matchup bet.
