This week, the European Tour travels to England for the 2021 BMW PGA Championship.
Before I dive into my favorite golf bets for this week’s prestigious European Tour event let’s take a look at the golf course the field will play and some additional facts that I feel are important to those that will be placing bets on the 2021 BMW PGA Championship.
The 2021 BMW PGA Championship will be played at the the Wentworth Golf Club (West Course) in Surrey, England. This course was designed by Harry Colt in 1926. It should be noted that Ernie Els re-designed portions of the golf course in 2016. This track is a par 72 that measures 7,286 yards. This track will present this week's field with four par fives and four par threes.
Key Facts
The average cumulative four round winning score of the three previous winners of the BMW PGA Championship was 18.67 strokes under par (2020 Tyrrell Hatton -19: 2019 Danny Willet -20: 2018 Francesco Molinari -17).
The Wentworth Golf Club made it's debut hosting the BMW PGA Championship in 1984.
Nine of the last 15 winners of the BMW PGA Championship were Englishmen.
Now let’s shift our focus to my favorite golf bets for the 2021 BMW PGA Championship.
Here is a golfer to consider placing on your card to finish in the top five.
Shane Lowry +275
If you are looking for a golfer to fit the narrative of a course horse look no further as you have have found your man. That man's name is Shane Lowry. Lowry has played the BMW PGA Championship eight times since 2013. In those eight tournaments just mentioned, Lowry has accumulated seven top 13 finishes, including a second place result at the 2014 BMW PGA Championship.
Lowry also checks the box for me when it comes to current form. Shane Lowry has played ten tournaments (PGA and European Tours combined) since the beginning of May. In those ten events just mentioned, Lowry has accumulated seven top 23 finishes, including an impressive fourth place result at the 2021 PGA Championship.
Here are two golfers to consider placing on your card to finish in the top ten.
Henrik Stenson +400
The 45 year old arrives at this week's European Tour event on the heels of three consecutive top 15 finishes, including a third place result at the 2021 Omega European Masters two weeks ago. It should also be noted that Stenson finished third at the 2017 BMW PGA Championship.
Stenson is currently ranked seventh in driving accuracy (63.99%) and 15th in strokes gained around the green (0.43) on the European Tour.
Richard Bland +550
Richard Bland has played six events on the European Tour since the beginning of July. In those six tournaments just mentioned, Bland has accumulated four top 15 finishes, including a third place result at the 2021 Cazoo Classic last month.
