Breeders Cup 2014 Preview: Turf Sprint Pick, Odds, Preview
The Pick-6 players probably react one of two ways to seeing that the 2014 Breeders Cup Turf Sprint will be kicking off Saturday’s most valuable wager. Either they’re excited that such a competitive race is involved, or they’re devastated that they have to come up with a winner in an impossibly tough field. The good news is that all 29 pre-entries can’t fit in the gate at the same time.
Not making things any easier is Santa Anita’s unique 6 ½ furlong downhill turf course. As always it is important to take a look at who has had some success over the course in the past.
Ambitious Brew has won four times in five tries over the ground with the lone loss being a second place finish a few weeks back while favored in the G3 Eddie D. Home Run Kitten is two-for-two including that same Eddie D and his maiden score. Sweet Swaps record is 8-4-2-1 showing good experience including a score last out in a G3, but that came way back in April. Regally Ready’s 5-3-0-2 doesn’t include his 2011 victory in this race, which was held at Churchill Downs that year. Unbridled’s Note’s 8-3-1-1 doesn’t mention his 4th place finish in last year’s tightly contested Turf Sprint over this course.
A few other worth mentioning include No Nay Never whose talent may know no boundaries, Bobby’s Kitten who is always tough on the front end, but will be racing at less than a mile for the first time in his career, Reneesgotzip who seems to be more at home over the synthetic going, Silentio, who will be cutting back in a similar fashion to Bobby’s Kitten, and Wes Welker’s Undrafted who shines in turf sprints.
Seemingly countless others are pre-entered and we will revisit when the field is cut to a reasonable size.
