The Boston Red Sox and the Seattle Mariners face off on Thursday in Boston as they close out their series at Fenway Park.
The Boston Red Sox moved back into first place in the AL East as they outlasted Seattle on Thursday. Dustin Pedroia had two hits including a home run and Shane Victorino, Jarrod Saltalamcchia, and Stephen Drew each had two hits as the Red Sox scored five runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher John Lackey allowed eight hits and three earned runs while striking out six over 7.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Drake Briton got the win to go to 1-0. For Thursday’s game Boston starts Ryan Dempster who is coming off of a win at Baltimore in his last start. For the season Dempster has allowed 120 hits and 57 earned runs while striking out 112 over 121 innings for a 6-8 record and a 4.24 ERA.
The Seattle Mariners fought the good fight on Wednesday thiteming runners out at the plate and scoring in the clutch but in the end they were outlasted by the Red Sox. Kyle Seager had three hits including a home run, Kendrys Morales had three hits, and Brad Miller, Raul Ibanez, Michael Saunders, and Humberto Quintero each had two hits as the Mariners scored four runs on 16 hits. Hisashi Iwakuma allowed seven hits and struck out four over 5.2 innings to not get a decision as Lucas Luetge took the loss to fall to 0-2 on the year. For Thursday’s game the Mariners start Felix Hernandez who is once again very tough to beat this season. For the year Hernandez has allowed 135 hits and 40 earend runs while striking out 158 over 153.2 innings for a 11-4 record and a 2.34 ERA.
Boston is 17-6 in their last 23 home games, 6-2 against the AL West, and 5-1 in Dempster’s last six starts. Seattle is 4-2 in their last six road games, 10-5 in their last 15 games overall, and 4-1 in Hernandez’s last six starts. Seattle is 10-28 in their last 38 games in Boston.
Runs are going to be tough to come by once again and for me free pick in this game I am going to take the under. My stronger play is on the winning side and I am going to post that pick in the Premium Area.
