Milwaukee Brewers vs. Washington Nationals Free Pick- 8/2/2013

The Washington Nationals visit Miller Park to open a series with the Milwaukee Brewers.
If the Nationals are going to get back in the National League East race, they better get going, especially with Atlanta beginning to play well. Washington dropped a two game set at Detroit by a combined score of 16-2 after looking flat in an 11-1 defeat on Thursday. This was extra disappointing because Gio Gonzalez had nothing going and was tagged for ten runs on eleven hits and a free pass over just 3.1 innings. That was game over, with the Washington attack producing five hits and walking five times, with the only run plated on a Jason Werth sacrifice fly in the first. Washington hands the ball to Jordan Zimmerman in game one of their series at Milwaukee. Zimmerman has been in a three game downward spiral with an 0-3 record and inflated 8.40 ERA.
As I have said recently, Milwaukee is in the role of spoiler and have been for quite awhile. The Brew Crew did take three of four from the Cubs, but that hardly qualifies as spoiling anything with Chicago not within shouting distance of the top heavy National League Central. The Cubbies got the victory Thursday by a 6-1 count as the Brewers up and down tendency at the mound and plate reared it’s ugly head once again. Starter Wily Peralta was back in struggle mode after a few good outings. Peralta was charged with four runs (three earned) over five frames, before Alfredo Figaro gave up two more in just two innings. The offense was a non factor, with nine hits and a walk, with Jonathan Lucroy driving in the lone run with a double. Left-hander Tom Gorzelanny squares off with the Nationals in Friday’s series opener. Gorzelanny is 1-1 the last two times out, but hasn’t looked good with nine runs scored on eleven hits and four walks over 11 innings.
This might be more of a guessing game than trying to figure out which is the best bet because neither have been predictable. I say there are better options on the board but…
