The struggling New York Yankees and San Diego Padres look for optimism Friday in SD after both struggled to find their offenses on Wednesday.
The Padres wrote in a run during the botom of the ninth due to Chase Headley's double driving in Everth Cabrera. It was the only run San Diego put together in a 4-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. The Padres were aided during the inning by a Cincinnati error.

NY was nearly as bad at the Los Angeles Dodgers, winning 3-0 ,although all of their runs came during the top of the ninth. The Yanks struck first on Lyle Overbay's RBI-single as an LA error allowed Jayson Nix to reach first base safely and Ichiro Suzuki, along with Lyle Overbay, to come home. New York got seven superb frames from Hiroki Kuroda (10-6, 2.38 ERA).
C.C. Sabathia (9-9, 4.65 ERA) steps onto the mound next for the Yankees, who have gone down his last four showings. Sabathia has taken three losses all at home in that span. The one no-decision was a five-inning nightmare at the Boston Red Sox, yielding seven runs in an 8-7 NY defeat. Sabathia is 3-4 in away appearances for the year, giving up 22 runs during 27 frames.
In Sabathia's road victories, the Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Angels and Minnesota Twins marked in four runs during 22 innings. As you may presume, SD hasn't seen Sabathia all that much, going 11-of-52 against, him with a team-high two RBIs from Carlos Quentin.
The Padres return with Andrew Cashner (7-5, 3.88 ERA), who is an impressive 4-2 at Petco Park, losing only to the Colorado Rockies and Seattle Mariners. Colorado thumped Cashner July 10 in his last trip to Petco for three runs, two earned, during five frames. Cashner, however, has beaten the Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals by allowing six runs during 28 innings.
San Diego is just 5-4 at Petco Park as a whole when Cashner pitches. The Yanks are 1-of-4 with Ichiro Suzuki earning the only walk on Cashner, who doesn't have the history of Sabathia, but has been money more often than not in 2013.
