The playoff hopeful Baltimore Orioles host the Seattle Mariners to kickoff the weekend.

There is exactly nothing that can be said to appease Seattle after Thursday's 8-7 defeat at Boston on Thursday that saddled the team with defeats in five of six. This loss hurt more than most, with the Red Sox scoring six runs in the 9th for the win, which spoiled a great pitching performance from Felix Hernandez. Hernandez gave up one run on six hits and two free passes in seven frames, while whiffing eight before the relief corps gave up seven runs in the last two innings. The offense was solid with an eleven hit, six walk attack producing a Henry Blanco grand slam. Seattle gives the ball to Aaron Harang to open the series with Baltimore Friday. Harang has thrown the ball well his last two times out with a combined two runs allowed on seven hits and three walks over 12 frames.

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

Baltimore hasn't been playing well and in the American League East, that's deadly. The Orioles had dropped six of eight before pounding out a 6-3 victory over Houston. The Result of the O's recent downturn has dropped the team from second to third in the power packed division. The bats and arms need to stay on the same page going forward as they were Thursday, with newly acquired Bud Norris holding his former team to two runs on four hits and a pair of bases on balls, while whiffing eight through six innings pitched. The Birds attack totaled eleven hits and received a pair of RBI's from Nate McLouth and a solo homer from Chris Davis. Baltimore is scheduled to start Chris Tillman against visiting Seattle. Tillman has gone 9-1 the past ten times out, with eight quality starts in this stretch, while the Orioles are 16-5 when he is on the mound.

I don't really like the way either team is playing, but the Orioles are in real need of a hot streak and hopefully start one here...
