Oakland Athletics vs. Texas Rangers Free Pick- 8/3/2013
2013-08-03 03:05:00 EDT
The Texas Rangers trimmed into the Oakland Athletics lead in the American League West Friday with a win, something Texas will try to do again on Saturday.
However, the Rangers can’t be thinking Oakland will lay down like how they seemed to do Friday. The A’s were outmatched in the opener and as always with Oakland it begins with starting pitching. Tommy Milone (9-9, 4.39 ERA) surrendered six runs to Texas during 3.2 innings.
Brandon Moss gave the Athletics a brief advantage during the bottom of the first, but all the home team could do the rest of the way was drive in one more due to Coco Crisp’s bat. The Rangers conversely drove in eight runs via Nelson Cruz’s home run, Adrian Beltre’s groundout and A.J. Pierzynski’s two RBI-singles.
Jarrod Parker (6-6, 4.07 ERA) goes next Saturday having not tasted victory since June 18 at Texas 6-2. The Rangers scored twice off of Parker during seven innings. At Texas May 22 the Rangers rode in three runs during seven frames to beat Parker 3-1. Parker won his next four decisions afterward.

At O.co Coliseum Parker is 3-3 getting beaten in his first three there yielding 18 runs during 13.2 innings. Parker beat the Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco Giants by allowing six runs, five earned, during 19.1 frames. Versus Parker Texas is 16-of-95 with nine RBIs, three from Elvis Andrus.
The Rangers go with new guy Matt Garza (1-0, 1.88 ERA). Texas is 2-0 with Garza on the rubber. Garza got his first decision with the Rangers June 24 dumping the New York Yankees 3-1 yielding an unearned run during 7.1 innings. Garza gave up three runs during seven frames five days later in a 4-3 Texas victory.
On July 3, while he was with the Chicago Cubs, Garza downed Oakland 3-1 allowing one run during eight innings. The A’s are 18-of-89 with six RBIs against Garza. Oakland should get the best of Garza here.
