The New York Yankees try rebounding from a 7-2 demolition during the opener to the San Diego Padres with a win on Saturday.
It was pretty much all SD who had twice as many hits, 14-7. SD started out on the scoreboard first striking during the first due to Yonder Alonso's walk and Jed Gyorko's groundout. Eduardo Nunez's double and C.C. Sabathia's (9-10, 4.78 ERA) double however a frame later tied it.

Unfortunately for NY and Sabathia the Padres weren't done scoring with Logan Forsythe's home run and Everth Cabrera's triple pushing in two more runs during the bottom of the fourth. San Diego then got in a run on Chris Denorfia's RBI-single, Gyorko's HR and Will Venable's HR. The Padres were 2-of-10 and the Yanks were 1-of-5 with Runners In Scoring Position.
Ivan Nova (4-4, 3.41 ERA) only tossed twice in May and June with New York losing three of those four games. Nova's health has been a concern and his head is too going 2-2 in July despite allowing seven runs during 31 innings. Going seven frames a piece his last two starts Nova got zero run support against the Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers for the game falling 1-0 and 3-0.
Nova is 1-2 on the road toppling TB May 25 with a scoreless inning. The Detroit Tigers saddled Nova with an away defeat 8-3 corking in four runs during 4.2 frames. The Yankees are 1-4 in Nova's five road contests. SD's Carlos Quentin is 0-of-6 with three strikeouts versus Nova. No other Padre has seen Nova at the dish.
San Diego returns with Tyson Ross (2-4, 2.90 ERA) who has collected victories his last two outings at the Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers. Too bad at Petco Park Ross is 0-0 while the Padres are 3-7 in his appearances. Ross' longest outing came April 12 going 5.1 innings of three-run baseball against Colorado. The Padres flopped 7-5.
Last season at NY Sept. 22 Ross fell 10-9 courtesy of conceding an unearned during 0.2 frames. Also with the Oakland Athletics Ross lost 6-3 at home to the Yanks via giving up six runs during 4.1 innings off of 12 hits and two walks. Versus Ross New York is 17-of-42 with eight RBIs, a couple from Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeira. The Yankees win.
