The Baltimore Orioles are trying to stay in the American League post season race, but they did nothing to help their cause taking a loss on Saturday. Manny Machado and Matt Weiters each had two hits and a home run, while Nick Markakis and Adam Jones each had hits as the Orioles scored four runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Scott Feldman had a tough night, allowing seven hits and five runs, while striking out four over 4.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-3 on the season. For Sunday’s game, the Orioles start Wei-Yin Chen who as won his last four decisions. For the season, Chen has allowed 70 hits and 24 earned runs, while striking out 46 over 75.1 innings for a 6-3 record and a 2.87 ERA.

The Seattle Mariners have played well in spots and Saturday in Baltimore was one of those spots. Justin Smoak had three hits, including a home run, Brad Miller had three hits, and Michael Saunders hit two home runs as the Orioles scored eight runs on 15 hits. Starting pitcher Erasmo Ramirez allowed four hits and four runs, while striking out six over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 3-0 on the season and Danny Farquhar earned his first save. For Sunday’s game, the Mariners start Joe Saunders, who has lost his last two starts. For the season, Saunders has allowed 154 hits and 67 earned runs, while striking out 77 over 129.2 innings for a 9-10 record and a 4.65 ERA.
Baltimore is 24-10 against the AL West, 24-12 in their last 36 home games, and 5-0 in Chen’s last five starts. Seattle is 3-7 in their last 10 road games against a left-handed starter, 1-5 in their last six games as an underdog, and 3-7 in Saunders’ last 10 games as a road underdog. Seattle is 1-7 in their last 10 games in Baltimore.
The Mariners got the best of it on Saturday, but look for Baltimore to take it out on the M’s on Sunday.
