Houston Astros vs. Boston Red Sox Free Pick- 8/5/13
2013-08-05 07:10:00 EDT
Arguably the best team in baseball, the Boston Red Sox, visit the worst club in the Houston Astros on Monday.
Houston was toppled once more at the Minnesota Twins Sunday to cap the Astros being swept. Again, Houston seemed to outplay Minnesota, yet finished with a loss, tumbling 3-2. The Astros had four more hits, 9-5, and recorded runs during top of the fifth off of Brandon Wallace’s and Chris Carter’s singles.
Boston, meanwhile, won a rubber match with the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-0 due to scoring twice during the bottom of the fifth and sixth. Scoring for the Sox were Stephen Drew twice, Brock Holt and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Felix Doubront (8-5, 3.56 ERA) was amazing through seven innings.
John Lackey (7-8, 3.23 ERA) starts for Boston next. Lackey hasn’t enjoyed the road much, going 3-6 during away games, falling in his first three appearances 5-3, 5-1 and 5-0 giving up 10 runs during 13.2 frames. Lackey also went down at the Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia Phillies, conceding 10 runs during 19.1 innings.

In Lackey’s three road victories, Baltimore, the Oakland Athletics and Twins manufactured five runs, four earned, during 20 frames. Houston was stifled by Lackey April 28 at Fenway Park 6-1, scoring just once during six innings. The Astros are 3-of-16 with a Trevor Citeme RBI against Lackey.
Houston returns with Brett Oberholtzer (1-0, 3.77 ERA), who was brilliant at Baltimore July 31 in his last start. Oberholtzer didn’t surrender a run during seven frames. At Minute Maid Park, though, the Astros are 0-2 when Oberholtzer takes the ball, getting beaten by the Cleveland Indians and Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 and 8-0. Oberholtzer yielded five runs during four innings. The Red Sox almost have fewer overall losses than Houston has home defeats…. Boston tees off.
