San Diego Padres vs. New York Yankees Free Pick- 8/4/13
2013-08-04 03:10:00 EDT
The New York Yankees and San Diego Padres play a rubber game Sunday following SD dominating the opener 7-2 and NY getting the Padres back 3-0 at Petco Park Saturday night.
The Yanks finished with as many hits as San Diego, but New York did more with theirs. Tyson Ross (2-5, 2.91 ERA) was great until the end of his evening giving up two runs via Curtis Granderson’s home run. Jason Nix’s ninth-inning RBI-single added in the final Yankees run. Two of the five Padres hits came from Chase Headley.
SD’s new acquisition Ian Kennedy (3-8, 5.23 ERA) aims to snap a five-game losing streak. The Arizona Diamondbacks dropped nine of Kennedy’s last 10 offerings. The Padres saw Kennedy twice once motoring in five runs during 5.2 frames at Petco so imagine what NY might do at Petco Park?
Kennedy’s four other away defeats saw him concede 18 runs during 21 innings; however, the St. Louis Cardinals were drove in 10 of those during four frames. Kennedy won 12-4 June 1 at the Chicago Cubs with a seven-inning four-run decision. The Yanks are 12-of-39 with 10 RBIs, seven Alfonso Soriano’s, against Kennedy.

Phil Hughes (4-9, 4.58 ERA) steps out next for New York who is 5-4 in his road trips. Hughes however has taken seven defeats in his last nine decisions. At the Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins and Seattle Mariners Hughes was marvelous yielding eight runs, seven earned, during 19.2 innings.
Well all except at KC but Hughes still got the victory 11-6. Fifteen of 20 Hughes showings have seen the Yankees score fewer than five runs. Versus Hughes San Diego is 2-of-13 without an RBI. The Padres will need to score because Kennedy will likely be lit up like a firecracker.
