2013-08-05 09:10:00 EDT
The puzzling Toronto Blue Jays found light Sunday and will try taking their new-found momentum into a road series at the Seattle Mariners Monday night.
Seattle’s won just two games in a item, but had an eight-game winning streak spanning the first and second-half of the season. The M’s regained their swagger, fighting past the Baltimore Orioles 3-2. Seattle went ahead 1-0 during the top of the second on Raul Ibanez’s RBI-double. Henry Blanco’s home run during the seventh reclaimed the advantage for the Mariner,s who were 2-of-6 with Runners In Scoring Position. Baltimore was 0-of-11.
Later Sunday, Toronto rallied past tthe Los Angeles Angels 6-5. The Jays went ahead briefly during the third before a four-run LA fourth turned the tide. Toronto jumped in front via Jose Bautista’s RBI-single, which came minutes after Rajai Davis’ RBI-single. The Blue Jays belted in two more during the top of the eighth via Edwin Encarnacion’s fielder’s choice and Maicer Izturis’ single. Then during the ninth tied it on Jose Bautista’s two-out single and and went ahead on Encarnacion’s single.
Toronto thitems out R.A. Dickey (8-11, 4.66 ERA) to the bump Monday. Dickey was butchered 8-1 by Seattle May 4 at Rogers Centre, conceding seven runs during six innings. The M’s are 24-of-92 with 18 RBIs altogether against Dickey, so perhaps May 4 was an anomaly. Dustin Ackley’s and Ibanez’s numbers, however, are not hitting a third of their 12 hits out of the park in just 33 at-bats, mind you, off Dickey.
The Jays are 5-6 in Dickey’s road challenges. Dickey is 4-4 in away games, losing four times by yielding 19 runs, 18 earned, during 24 frames. In road victories over the Kansas City Royals, San Francisco Giants, Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers Dickey allowed two runs during 29.1 innings.

Hisashi Iwakuma (10-4, 2.76 ERA) delivers next for Seattle, who benefited from his last two Safeco Field appearances to get wins. Iwakuma surrendered three runs during 13 frames to beat the Angels and Minnesota Twins in July. Iwakuma split seven-inning home June offerings and knocked off the Oakland Athleitcs and Texas the first two months at Safeco, via giving up three runs during 13.2 frames.
Iwakuma dominated in Toronto May 4 with seven innings of one-run baseball. The Blue Jays are 8-of-48 with six RBIs, four Encarnacion’s, versus Iwakuma, who has had a steadier hand than Dickey. Seattle breezes through via an Iwakuma gem.
