Chicago White Sox vs. New York Yankees Free Pick - 8/6/13

The New York Yankees look to turn their season around beginning with the Chicago White Sox.
After enjoying some unexpected success in the early stages of 2013, things have leveled off for the Yankees who just can’t get things headed in the right direction. It’s much too early to write this team off, but the offense has got to begin to produce consistently or this season won’t end on a good note. It was double trouble Monday with the work on the mound also struggling in an 8-1 loss to the White Sox. Andy Pettitte lasted only two innings with seven runs allowed on eleven hits and a walk in 2.2 frames. The offense mustered nine hits and walked once with the lone run scoring on a sacrifice fly. The Yankees give the ball to Hiroki Kuroda to pitch the team past the White Sox Tuesday. Kuroda has been at the top of his game the entire 2013 campaign with more than two runs given up twice over the past ten contests.
The White Sox have been losing and losing behind an offense that is having scoring issues that has squandered some solid performances on the mound. Monday’s victory was not only rare, it snapped a ten game slump with an even rarer big night at the plate. It hasn’t been often that both the arms and the bats have been on the same page as we saw Monday with Jose Quintana allowing the lone run on eight hits and and a base on balls through 6.2 innings pitched. The bats unleashed a 14 hit, seven walk attack that saw Alex Rios driving in four runs, while Alexei Ramirez knocked in two runs with a single. The Yankees face left hander Chris Sale Tuesday who is one of the best in the business. Sale did struggle in a 6-1 loss at Cleveland with five runs scored on ten hits covering five innings of work.
The Yankees have had to deal with plenty of distractions with the latest being the A-Rod fiasco. I suppose having Kuroda on the bump will give the Bronx Bombers a boost but facing Chris Sale is no picnic. However, New York with their best on the hill at plus odds is the way I’m looking…
