Cincinnati Reds vs. Oakland Athletics Free Pick - 8/6/13

The Oakland Athletics travel to Great American Ball Park to face the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday.
It has not been a good week for Oakland who have dropped four of five with two of those defeats coming to Texas who is their biggest threat in the American League West. In this stretch, neither the work on the mound or at the plate has been very competitive. That was the case Sunday in a 4-0 loss to the visiting Rangers, where AJ Griffin fell victim to a lack of support. Griffin gave up all four runs (three earned) on five hits and a BB,while recording seven strike outs in 6.2 frames. The bats totaled five hits and walked three times and didn’t threaten. Daniel Straily is scheduled to be on the bump Tuesday at Great American Ball Park. Strily has dropped three in a item and has been in struggle mode the last two times out with seven earned runs allowed over nine frames.
If you are a Cincinnati fan, you know that a slide of any length can be a death blow to their National League Central title hopes. If that is true, the Reds have to begin racking up the wins after a 15-2 defeat to the rival Cardinals saddled them with losses in seven of ten. Chalk Sunday’s defeat to just one of those days where nothing goes as planned in any area. Mike Leake had been the Reds best starter but suffered through a rare off day with seven runs plated on eight hits and a pair of walks in five frames, while three relievers were tagged for eight runs. With the bats mustering only four hits and walking twice, this was a done deal with Zack Cozart providing the lone bright spot on a two run homer. Cincinnati turns to Mat Latos to get the team back in the win column with Oakland in town. Latos has thitemn the ball well over the last three outings, with five runs plated in 18.2 innings while going 2-0 with a no decision.
Let me first say that Mat Latos has always been a difficult guy for me to predict and he makes my heart beat faster when I back him. Not really a game of interest for me…
