The surging Los Angeles Dodgers aren't only after the National League West title, they're after the best record in the NL. The once there and starting to fade St. Louis Cardinals fell 3-2 in St. L to open a pivotal four-game set Monday night and will look for revenge the next three days beginning with LA Tuesday.
The Cards scored first during the bottom of the first via Carlos Beltran's fielder's choice, but could only string together another run on another out during the bottom of the seventh. Adron Chambers came home off of Allen Craig's groundout.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, scored twice with Andre Ethier at the plate, along with Zach Greinke (9-3, 3.40 ERA) singling in Nick Punto during the seventh. Greinke outworked Adam Wainwright (13-7, 2.66 ERA) by the slimmest of margins, despite going two fewer outs.
Los Angeles' Clayton Kershaw (10-6, 1.87 ERA) is a workhorse and will try to do his best Tuesday at St. Louis. Kershaw, however, was crushed by the Cardinals at Dodger Stadium 5-3 on May 26, conceding four runs during seven frames. On the road, though, Kershaw won all three of his July starts, seeing in three runs during 24 innings.
Kershaw began the year 1-2 in away trips getting beaten by the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres, allowing three and four runs during 7.1 and six frames. On May 20 at the Milwaukee Brewers, Kershaw won 3-1 with a complete game. St. L is 34-of-130, with 17 RBIs, five Craig's, against Kershaw.
The Cards come back with Joe Kelly (2-3, 3.10 ERA), who would love to duplicate his last go-around of six scoreless innings in a 13-0 victory at the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kelly, however, has seemed to struggle more at Busch Stadium, giving up eight runs, seven earned, during seven frames for all three of his losses. St. Louis is 3-8 during Kelly's home offerings.
In addition, at LA May 25, Kelly conceded two runs during three innings of a 4-3 Cardinals defeat. Versus Kelly, the Dodgers are 12-of-40 with a pair of RBIs from Andre Ethier and Adrian Gonzalez. LA stifles St. L once more.
