The Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers face off on Wednesday for game three of their series in Cleveland.
For the second time in recent weeks, the Cleveland Indians had a chance to make a move on the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central standings and once again they have come up on the short end of things. On Tuesday Michael Bourn had two hits and Asdrubal Cabrera and Michael Brantley each had hits as the Indians scored one run on four total hits. Starting pitcher Justin Masterson allowed seven hits and five runs, while striking out six over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 13-8 on the season. For Wednesday’s game the Indians start Danny Salazar who makes his second start. In his last start, Salazar allowed two hits and a run while striking out seven over 6.0 innings to get the win.

The Detroit Tigers have dominated the Indians head to head this season and they reminded the Tribe of that once again on Tuesday. Don Kelly had three hits, including a home run, Miguel Cabrera had two hits, and Austin Jackson had a hit as the Tigers scored five runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Justin Verlander allowed four hits and a run, while striking out seven over 8.0 innings to get the win and go to 12-8 on the season. For Wednesday’s game the Tigers start Doug Fister, who has won his last four starts. For the season Fister has allowed 145 hits and 56 earned runs, while striking out 106 over 143 innings for a 10-5 record and a 3.52 ERA.
Cleveland is 10-3 in their last 13 games, 4-1 in their last five games as a home underdog, and 35-17 in their last 52 home games. Detroit is 6-1 in their last seven road games, 23-7 in their last 30 games, and 1-6 in Fister’s last seven starts against a team with a winning record. Detroit is 10-1 in the last 11 meetings of these two.
This one looks like a defensive game and for my free pick the play here is the under. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that pick in the Premium Area.
