Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers Free Pick - 8/7/13
2013-08-07 09:05:00 EDT
On the verge of an away sweep the Texas Rangers try to close the hatchet on the defeated Los Angeles Angels Wednesday.
Texas blew out LA 8-3 scoring four times during the ninth to turn a great game into a proverbial yawner. Ian Kinsler’ sacrifice fly coupled with Garrett Richards’ (3-4, 4.20 ERA) wild pitch put the Rangers ahead 2-0 before Angels fans could sit down.
Fortunately for Los Angeles they responded quickly with Kyle Calhoun and Mike Trout home runs before J.B. Shuck’s single put the Angels ahead 4-3 during the bottom of the fourth. Texas however tied and went ahead during the fifth and eigth via Leonys Martin’s groundout and Adrian Beltre’s RBI-single. The Rangers the scored off of first baseman Calhoun’s error, Elvis Andrus’ single, Beltre’s single and A.J. Pierzynski’s single.
Alexi Ogando (4-3, 3.26 ERA) gets the assignment next for Texas. Versus LA already this season Ogando gave up four runs, two earned, during seven no-decision innings April 23 in Anaheim in a 5-4 Rangers loss. With the Angels 22-of-83 with 11 RBIs, four Trout’s, against Ogando, don’t expect Los Angeles to rack up the runs again.

Ogando is 2-2 on the road though beating the Houston Astros and Oakland Athletics allowing two runs during 12.1 frames and falling at the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians conceding six runs during seven innings. Texas is 5-4 overall when Ogando makes an away appearance.
The Angels are 4-4 in Anahem when Wednesday’s ace Tommy Hanson (4-2, 5.29 ERA) heads to the hill. Hanson’s home victories include the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees yielding two runs during 12.1 frames. In Hanson’s defeats at LA the Houston Astros smothered in 10 runs, nine earned, during 11.1 innings.
However on April 6 at Rangers Ballpark Hanson won 8-4 allowing three runs during six frames. Versus Hanson Texas is 12-of-37 with five RBIs, two Pierzynski’s. I expect a pitcher’s duel so I’ll try the Under as I don’t think either starter will be pulled until after six innings. Come on bullpens. Hold down the fort.
