The desperate Colorado Rockies shoot for a win at Citi Field versus the New York Mets.

I obviously watch a lot of baseball, even the bad and mediocre teams because they are all part of the game. So, where does Colorado stand after a 3-2 defeat on Tuesday? They are still alive in the National League West race but if the Rockies win this division it will be bucking the odds. Colorado dropped their 8th in eleven contests and can't get their game going on the road with the offense struggling. These trends continued despite a strong effort on the mound from Chad Bettis who gave up two runs on four hits and a walk over five frames. The offense stalled on six hits and three free passes, with Charlie Blackmon leaving the yard. Right hander Jhoulys Chacin is scheduled to be on the hill against the Mets looking for his sixth straight quality start. Chacin has gone 7-2 with a no decision over his last ten outings and is established himself as the go to guy of the rotation.

New York Mets vs. Colorado Rockies Free Pick - 8/7/13

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sport

I believe the Mets have taken a step back from last season where they played some spirited baseball before fading down the stretch. I think the team is missing the 'spirited' part of this equation and haven't put up the good fight I thought they were capable of. The New Yorkers did come through Tuesday but have still dropped seven of eleven which has them sitting in the 4th spot in the National League East. Starter Jenrry Meija gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits and a pair of free passes, while striking out seven through 5.1innings pitched. The bats mustered just six hits and walked three times, with Juan Lagares leading the way with three RBI's.The Mets turn to ace Matt Harvey on the mound against the visiting Rockies on Wednesday. Harvey suffered through a rare mediocre outing in a 3-0 defeat a Miami with all three runs given up on five hits in 5.2 frames.

Nether team is thrilling to bet although Harvey is a stud. However, he is a stud that has to win on his own most of the time and could win or lose 1-0. Just something to think about...
