San Diego Padres vs. Baltimore Orioles Free Pick - 8/7/13
2013-08-07 02:40:00 EDT
The Baltimore Orioles try to sweep the San Diego Padres in SD Wednesday following a 4-1 clinic.
Baltimore taught the Padres a lesson going 3-of-10 with Runners In Scoring Position. Usually 3-of-10 wouldn’t be considered great. However when San Diego goes 1-of-12 it’s a thing of beauty. The Padres could only register a run off of Yonder Alonso’s single. The Orioles conversely scored their first two runs via Adam Jones hits and then added a Chris Davis RBI-double and Manny Machado RBI-single.
Eric Stults (8-10, 3.55 ERA) steps to the rubber next for SD hoping to halt a three-game slide. On July 31 at Petco Park the skid was extended to three thanks to Stults surrendering four runs, one earned, during 6.2 frames to the Cincinnati Reds.
In Stults’ previous five decisions at Petco the opposition produced five runs during 38.1 innings. The Los Angeles Dodgers beat Stults 4-3 at Petco Park April 10 in his first home appearance. Nate McLouth has both of Baltimore’s at-bats against Stults going 0-of-2 with a walk and no RBIs.

The O’s return with Miguel Gonzalez (8-5, 3.88 ERA) who is in the midst of a two-game slide. Gonzalez’s skid began at the Kansas City Royals July 25 allowing six runs during 4.2 frames. Overall Gonzalez is 3-4 in away starts also falling at the Los Angeles Angels, New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays conceding nine runs, eight earned, during 19.1 innings.
In Gonzalez’s away victories he has given up four runs during 19 frames. Baltimore is 3-7 altogether when Gonzalez offers on the road. The Padres swing versus Gonzalez for the first time in the series finale. San Diego’s at Petco where the Padres hold a winning record. The Orioles have a few more away victories than defeats. Chance SD in Game Two.
