The Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves face off on Wednesday in Washington for game three of their series.
The Washington Nationals grabbed an early lead on the Braves on Tuesday, but they were unable to make it stand up as they took the loss at home. Bryce Harper had two hits, including a home run and Adam LaRoche, Ian Desmond, and Anthony Rendon all had hits as the Nationals scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez pitched well allowing six hits and two runs, while striking out five over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 7-5 on the season. For Wednesday’s game, the Nationals start Jordan Zimmerman who won last time out to end a personal three game losing streak. For the season, Zimmerman has allowed 128 hits and 50 earned runs, while striking out 109 over 147 innings for a 13-6 record and a 3.06 ERA.

The Atlanta Braves are running away with the National League East and they helped their cause with another win on Tuesday. Justin Upton and B.J. Upton each had two hits and Evan Gattis and Brian McCann each had hits as the Braves scored two runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Juio Teheran allowed four hits and a run while striking out four over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 9-5 on the season and Craig Kimbrel earned his 35th save. For Wednesday’s game, the Braves start Kris Medlen, who has had a rough season but has won his last two starts. For the season, Medlen has allowed 145 hits and 56 earned runs, while striking out 102 over 131 innings for an 8-10 record and a 3.85 ERA.
Washington is 3-8 in their last 11 games as a home favorite, 5-2 in their last seven games after losing the first two games of a series, and 19-7 in Zimmerman’s last 26 starts. Atlanta is 5-0 in their last five raod games, 14-3 in their last 17 games overall, and 37-14 in Medlen’s last 51 starts. Atlanta is 13-3 in the last 16 meetings of these two.
While the total is set low, scoring has been tough in this series and it doesn’t figure to get any easier here so my free pick is on the under. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will give out that pick in the Premium Area.
