Baltimore Orioles at San Francisco Giants Free Pick - 8/9/13

The Baltimore Orioles head to AT&T Park to take on the San Francisco Giants.
Although there is plenty of season to played, that might not necessarily be the case for the teams in the rugged American League East where the Orioles reside. The third place Birds need to get on their horse and begin racking up the wins or the Wild Card will be their only shot at the postseason. To be successful Baltimore needs to score and at least get a competitive performance on the mound and they received both Wednesday in a 10-3 win at San Diego. Miguel Gonzalez gave up three runs on six hits and two walks with eight K’s in six innings, while the bats erupted for 13 hits and three BB. Chris Davis and JJ Hardy went deep and drove in three runs apiece to lead the way. Baltimore sends win leader Chris Tillman to the hill in game one versus San Francisco on Friday. Tillman pitched poorly in an 11-8 victory over Seattle yet still won despite allowing six runs in 5.1 frames.
I am well aware that San Francisco has played their best baseball after the All Star break in previous years, but something seems amiss in 2013. The Giants have been fading and the Dodgers have been winning every thing in sight which has the team in chase mode. Despite Thursday’s 4-1 victory over the visiting Brew Crew, SF has won just two of six. The up and down pitching of Tim Lincecum was definitely up with a one hit shut out over eight innings, while the San Francisco attack produced ten hits and five free passes that saw Brandon Belt club a three run bomb in the first. Ryan Vogelsong takes the mound for the first time since May 20th after surgery on his thiteming hand. Vogelsong has had a poor season thus far, going 2-4 in nine starts with one quality outing.
The Orioles have to start winning without some of the peaks and valleys we have seen from them. I honestly don’t know what to expect from Vogelsong but the Orioles some how win with Tillman…
