The Cleveland Indians and the Los Angeles Angels face off on Friday in Cleveland for game one of their series.
The Cleveland Indians’ series against the Tigers couldn’t end soon enough for the Tribe as they were swept at home. Cleveland is 5-5 in their last 10 games, 37-23 at home this season, and they are seven games back in the AL Central. As a team the Indians are hitting .257, with Yan Gomes hitting .302, Jason Kipnis hitting .292, Michael Bourn hitting .280, and Michael Brantley hitting .283. As a team the Indians pitching staff has an ERA of 4.04, with the starters at 4.05 and the bullpen at 4.01. For game one against the Tigers, the Indians start Scott Kazmir who is having a successful comeback season. For the year Kazmir has allowed 102 hits and 48 earned runs, while striking out 100 over 111 innings for a 7-4 record and a 3.89 ERA.
The Los Angeles Angels are having an awful and disappointing season, but they have a choice whether to play hard to the end or just pack it in, which at times, looks like they have. The Angels are 3-7 in their last 10 games, 21-30 on the road this season, and they are 13 games back in the AL West. As a team the Angels are hitting .265 with Mike Trout hitting .333, Howie Kendrick hitting .301, and Erick Aybar hitting .284. As a team the Angels pitching staff has an ERA of 4.39 with the starters at 4.47 and the bullpen at 4.25. For game one against the Indians, the Angels start Jered Weaver, who has won five of his last six decisions. For the season Weaver has allowed 84 hits and 31 earned runs while striking out 78 over 96.1 innings for a 6-5 record and a 2.90 ERA.
Cleveland is 10-5 in their last 15 games, 20-6 as a home favorite, and 6-1 in Kazmir’s last seven starts as a favorite. Los Angeles is 10-2 in their last 12 games against the AL Central, 0-6 in their last six road games, and 4-1 in Weaver’s last five starts against a team with a winning record. Los Angeles is 6-2 in Weaver’s last eight starts against the Indians.
