Arizona Diamondbacks vs. New York Mets Free Pick - 8/10/13
2013-08-10 07:10:00 EDT
The New York Mets lost a thrilling 5-4 affair Friday at the Arizona Diamondbacks and will try to get payback on Saturday.
NY just led once 1-0 during the top of the fourth off of Justin Turner’s single. Adam Eaton’s and Martin Prado’s RBI-doubles an inning later gave Arizona the lead. The Mets momentarily squared things during the sixth via Turner’s single. The D-Backs though struck back ahead on Wil Nieves’ RBI-double.
Turner’s groundout during the eighth then trimmed New York’s deficit to one. Wilmer Flores’ groundout a few moments later tied the game at four. Unfortunately for the Mets they didn’t get a hit when it mattered most. Paul Goldschmidt’s walk-off home run came during the bottom of the ninth to send us on to Game Two.
Brandon McCarthy (2-5, 4.94 ERA) tries to stifle a two-game skid Saturday. McCarthy’s last two starts however were on the road and his last came more than two months after his previous. McCarthy returns to Chase Field for the first time since May 24 when he beat the San Diego Padres 5-2 with a seven-inning one-run gem.

Also at Chase the Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates bullied in 12 runs, 10 earned, during 12.2 frames off of McCarthy. NY is 2-of-12 with a John Buck and Marlon Byrd RBI versus McCarthy.
The Mets answer with Zack Wheeler (4-2, 3.73 ERA) who is 3-0 on the road. At the Atlanta Braves, Milwaukee Brewers and San Francisco Giants Wheeler gave up four runs, two earned, during 18 innings to pick up victories. New York is 1-1 in Wheeler’s two no-decisions.
Arizona will be glad to know Wheeler surrendered four runs, three earned, during five frames in his last start to the Kansas City Royals. The Diamondbacks however won’t have the firepower to bash the Mets in Game Two like they were able to Friday with three doubles and a HR.
