Both the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks aspired to make the postseason at the start of the year and come off sweeps heading into Chase Field on Friday.
NY's possibility of making the playoffs is far-fetched, but if the Mets can maintain their road success and keep improving at home, they could challenge reaching the .500 mark. New York climbed within eight more wins of that goal, dusting off the Colorado Rockies 2-1 at Citi Field Thursday.

The Mets quickly evened things at one on Wilmer Flores' groundout right after Colorado struck first. NY wound up winning the game on next batter Anthony Recker's sacrifice fly.
Arizona capped a two-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday with Martin Prado's two-run single during the bottom of the eighth. A frame earlier TB went ahead 8-7 after trailing 7-4. The D-Backs built a huge lead with Eric Chavez's, Aaron Hill's and Wil Nieves' RBIs during the fifth inning. Prior Paul Goldschmidt, Prado and Hill singled, homered and doubled in Arizona runs.
The Diamondbacks try helping ace Patrick Corbin (12-3, 2.33 ERA) avoid a third consecutive loss Friday. Corbin's only Chase Field defeat came July 28 to the San Diego Padres 1-0. Corbin gave up a run during eight frames. Previously in eight Chase wins, Corbin allowed 10 runs, seven earned, during 52.2 innings.
At the Mets July 2 Corbin suffered his first loss 9-1 surrendering five runs during six frames. New York is 15-of-43 with four RBIs, half Kirk Nieuwenhuis', versus Corbin.
Jeremy Hefner (4-8, 4.17 ERA) combats for the Mets. Hefner went down his first five decisions, thrice on the road conceding 11 runs during 15 innings. On May 29, however, Hefner tripped up the New York Yankees 9-4 in the Bronx, allowing three runs during six frames.
At the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies, Hefner yielded four runs, three earned, during 13 innings. NY is 5-7 in all of Hefner's away showings. Also on July 2, Arizona was ambushed by Hefner 9-1 thanks to seven solid frames. The D-Backs are 4-of-24 with a Prado RBI against Hefner. I like the Mets in an upset.
