Cincinnati Reds vs. San Diego Padres Free Pick - 8/11/13

The Cincinnati Reds and the San Diego Padres take the field at Great American Ball Park.
I would say San Diego is improved but obviously not enough to be a factor in the National League West. The Padres do look like they would be the perfect spoiler with an outside shot at reaching the .500 mark. SD did play the spoiler perfectly in a 3-1 victory over Cincinnati Saturday with great pitching and just enough hitting leading the way. Tyson Ross picked up the win with one run plated on four hits and four BB over seven frames. The bats made the most of four hits and three walk with Will Venable clubbing number 15, while two runs scored on errors. Ian Kennedy looks for back to back victories since coming over from the Diamondbacks. Kennedy knocked off the Yankees 6-3 with two runs plated on four hits and four BB through 5.2 frames.
Cincinnati had won three in a item before Saturday’s defeat. The loss in itself is no big deal as long as the Reds can regroup quickly and get back in the win column in the top heavy National League Central. The Reds have the bats and arms to cause plenty of problems for opponents but only the arms showed up Saturday, with Starter Tony Cingrani allowing a pair of unearned runs on two hits and two bases on balls through five innings which was still a losing performance. The defense and offense simply didn’t come through with just four hits and five walks to go along with four errors. Brandon Phillips provided the scoring with a run scoring single for the lone bright spot. Mike Leake looks to get back on the winning track when he faces the Reds in Sunday action.
