The Cincinnati Reds look to keep their NL Central hopes alive against the San Diego Padres.
Heading in to Cincinnati with a hot Cashner on the mound, I thought San Diego at least had a shot Friday. Buit it was not to be, with the Padres unable to score and pitch with the home team in a 7-2 defeat. That put a dent in the team's goal of reaching .500 as well and they weren't very good spoilers either. Andrew Cashner was not at the top of his game, with five runs allowed (four earned) on seven hits and four walks in five frames. That was too much for the Padres five hit, one walk attack that saw Logan Forsythe and Will Venable club solo homers. The Padres will be leaning on Tyson Ross to steal a win at Cincinnati. Ross has been solid in three starts since joining the rotation, with three runs given up on eight hits and seven walks over 20 frames.

The Reds simply cannot afford to meander about with the Cardinals and Pirates in the National League Central and have shown some positive signs as of late. Friday's victory gave the Reds wins in five of seven to keep them in the midst of the division race. Cincinnati had every thing going Friday, with starter Bronson Arroyo giving up a single run on four hits, while striking out seven through seven innings pitched. The offense made that a winning performance on ten hits and four walks that saw Brandon Phillips smack a two run bomb, with Joey Votto driving in a pair of runs as well. Left hander Tony Cingrani looks to snag win number six when he faces San Diego on Saturday. Cingrani defeated St Louis 8-3 with three runs plated on four hits and five walks in only five innings pitched.
If Cincinnati is going to make a move, now would be a good time to get started. I think the match up on the mound could be a close one but I prefer the Reds bats...
