2013-08-10 06:10:00 EDT
The Kansas City Royals and the Boston Red Sox face off on Saturday in Kansas City For game three of their series.
The Kansas City Royals are red hot and they kept the ball rolling on Friday beating the Red Sox. Justin Maxwell had three hits including a home run, Billy Butler and Eric Hosmer had three hits each, and Alex Gordon had two hits including a home run as the Royals scored nine runs on 16 hits. Starting pitcher Ervin Santana allowed nine hits and six runs lasting just 3.2 innings but he got a no decision as Francisley Bueno got the win to go to 1-0 and Greg Holland earned his 31st save. For Saturday’s game the Royals start Jeremy Guthrie who has won his last four starts. For the season Guthrie has allowed 150 hits and 65 earned runs while striking out 81 over 147.2 innings for a 12-7 record and a 3.96 ERA.
The Boston Red Sox continue to lead the American League East but the lead is down to one game over the Rays. On Friday David Ortiz had two hits including a home run and Mike Napoli and Jarrod Saltalamacchia added two hits each as the Red Sox scored six runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Jake Peavy allowed 10 hits and six runs over 5.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Drake Britton blew the save and took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the year. For Saturday’s game the Red Sox start Felix Doubront who won last time out to end a personal two game losing streak. For the season Doubront has allowed 119 hits and 49 earned runs while striking out 112 over 124 innings for a 8-5 record and a 3.56 ERA.
Kansas City is 17-5 in their last 22 games, 7-1 in their last right home games, and 25-9 in Guthrie’s last 34 starts. Boston is 7-4 in their last 11 games, 7-2 against a right-handed starter, and 5-2 in Doubront’s last seven starts with 5 days rest.
I expect to see more scoring on Saturday and for this one to go over the total and that is my free pick. My stronger pick is on the winning side and I will post that winning pick in the Premium Area.
